Jewel made entirely by hand by the Italian craftsman Gianmarco Fontana. Ring depicting a hippopotamus made of 925 Silver, which is part of the "Animalia" collection.
The hippopotamus has a head-body length from 3.30 to 3.75 m and is 1.50 m high at the withers; the weight ranges from 1.4 to 3 t (the males are clearly larger than the females) and records a maxillary pressure of about 400 kg / cm².
The hippopotamus has a stocky appearance: the legs are short, the head is large and prominent, proportionate to the large hairless body and cylindrical in shape. Despite the size and the curious body structure, this animal is however rather agile. If necessary, it can charge - or run away - at around 40 km / h. When it comes out of the water, it can easily climb even on steep banks with the help of its short legs. Its clumsy gait is the consequence of an adaptation based on aquatic life. The shape of the head is perfect to allow the hippopotamus to remain immersed for a long time: the large eyes, the nostrils and the ears, small and mobile, are located in the upper part of the muzzle and are on the same plane (often only the parts remain visible). When it dives, the nostrils and ears close.
