Bob Marley
Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley (Nine Mile, 6 febbraio 1945 – Miami, 11 maggio 1981) è stato un cantautore, chitarrista e attivista giamaicano.
Ha contribuito a sviluppare e diffondere in tutto il mondo uno stile di vita generalmente identificato con la musica reggae, che peraltro lo rese popolare fuori dalla Giamaica. In riconoscimento dei suoi meriti, un mese dopo la morte fu insignito del prestigioso Jamaica Order of Merit.
Nel 2008 è stato posizionato al 19º posto nella lista dei 100 migliori cantanti secondo Rolling Stone e all'11º posto nella lista dei 100 migliori artisti secondo Rolling Stone; tra le sue migliori "tracce vocali" ci sono I Shot the Sheriff, No Woman, No Cry, Is This Love, Natural Mystic, One Love, Exodus, Africa Unite, Catch a Fire, Could You Be Loved, Get Up, Stand Up, Three Little Birds, Jammin', No More Trouble, Waiting in Vain e Redemption Song.
La sua musica è fortemente dedicata al tema della lotta contro l'oppressione politica e razziale e all'invito all'unificazione dei popoli di colore come unico modo per raggiungere la libertà e l'uguaglianza. L'aspetto politico della sua vita è stato più importante di quello artistico. Marley divenne un leader politico, spirituale e religioso. Nel 1978 gli fu conferita, a nome di 500 milioni di africani, la medaglia della pace dalle Nazioni Unite. Morì nel 1981 a causa di un melanoma al piede destro.
