Grey Wolf
The wolf (Canis lupus) is the largest species among the representatives of the genus Canis, the body dimensions vary a lot, depending on the geographical area considered, and can even reach 60 kg in weight. It has a slender body, with an elongated snout, not very long triangular ears, a relatively short neck, a short and hairy tail and long and thin limbs.
The color of the coat is generally camouflage, the eyes are oblique, light brown in color, and arranged in a frontal position and rather spaced apart.
Characteristic of the species is the presence of particularly developed "feral" teeth whose function seems to be that of shearing large bones and tendons.
The wolf present in Italy reaches a weight between 24 and 40 kg, while the length from the tip of the muzzle to the tail is between 100 and 140 cm. The coat color varies from fawn to gray and black individuals have recently been spotted in the National Park of the Casentinesi Forests and in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
