The species belonging to this taxon usually have warty skin, large paratoid glands located behind the eyes, and horizontal pupils. The color tends to be greyish-yellow or greenish-brown, with no real pattern, but can vary with the seasons, with sex and with age. The hind legs are short and stocky, while the muzzle appears flattened. In males, usually a little smaller than their mates, the formation of dark nuptial pads on the three inner toes of the front legs can be appreciated during the mating period.
