Koi carp
Koi were developed from the common carp in China during the Jìn dynasty. The first news of these carp (known by the generic name of koi) dates from the fifth century BC. when we find them used in aquaculture. The carp then also arrived in Europe thanks to the trade of the Roman Empire which spread it for the first time also in homes and private gardens that had ponds and fountains. The common carp was introduced to Japan through China in the 15th century and from here began the classification and production of carp with different colors. The various types were brought together in 1914 in Tokyo where the first of a series of annual exhibitions on the subject was held. At this point, interest in koi exploded throughout Japan and then around the world.
The word koi comes from Japanese, where it simply means "carp" and in popular culture they are a symbol of love and friendship. They, especially in the West, have spread their figure in many tattoos for this meaning.
