Pitbull
The American Pit Bull Terrier, or simply Pit Bull, is a canine breed. It is generally believed to be the result of the crossing of two English breeds, the Old English Terrier and the Old Bulldog, which began at the end of the 19th century; according to some authors, such as Richard Stratton, it is the authentic Renaissance working bull dog without the contribution of other breeds.
For the APBTs there are two (or better three) standards, considering that the American Staffordshire terrier is a selective variant of the aforementioned breed. These are dictated by the UKC, ADBA and fci regarding the selective variant called amstaff.
The UKC thinks of a more modern dog that somehow leaves behind the legacies of the past. The dog has a more compact shape, a slightly larger size (although there are ADBA subjects that may be larger than a UKC), head to brick therefore slightly more flattened than an ADBA Pit Bull, and over the years the selection character UKC has repressed some instincts typical of the American Pit Bull Terrier.
