The Eva 02 unit is the first Evangelion designed for mass production and real combat, piloted by Second Children Asuka Sōryū Langley. Although developed in Japan, the activation tests and pilot training took place in Germany under the supervision of Dr. Kyōko Zeppelin Sōryū. She played a crucial role in the unit's activation, with her maternal essence believed to reside within the Eva 02.

Distinctive features of Eva 02 include four eyes and blue internal fluids, contrasting with the red fluid of previous units. The shoulders are equipped with upgraded weapons: a Progressive Knife on the left and a Needle Gun on the right.
