Frederick Charles "Freddy" Krueger, sometimes nicknamed Fred, is a fictional film character, absolute antagonist of the saga of horror movie Nightmare. In life he was a serial killer, with a particular interest in infanticide. He was killed in revenge by his own fellow citizens and obtained, after death, the ability to manifest himself in the dreams of others, which he uses to torment and kill the children of those responsible for his death.
In all films in the original series he is played by Robert Englund, and it is so well known that the actor is usually associated with the character. In the 2010 remake, the character is played by Jackie Earle Haley. Freddy Krueger appears in 40th place on AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Heroes and Villains list, compiled by the American Film Institute in 2003.
