Arachnophobia is a specific phobia, an irrational fear of spiders. It is also known as arachnephobia.
It can occur in various levels of intensity, from disgust to the strongest form of repulsion, to a level of uncontrollable horror that leads to panic attacks, flight and other reactions outside of lucidity.
In some cases, even a very realistic photo or drawing of a spider can cause fear.
It is a very widespread phobia and many of the meanings that folklore and imagery associate with spiders are linked to it.
