Crocodile

Jewel made entirely by hand by the Italian craftsman Gianmarco Fontana. Ring depicting a crocodile made of 925 Silver, which is part of the "Animalia" collection.

The body is elongated and hydrodynamic covered with scales, usually dark in color on the back and light on the belly. The head is almost triangular, with nostrils at the end of the jaw and protruding eyes. The long tail is vertically flattened and therefore suitable for swimming. The legs are relatively short, strong and webbed. The length is very varied: from the meter of the osteolemus (Osteolaemus tetraspis) to 6.5 / 7 meters and more of the marine crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), as well as the weight, which varies from 20 up to 1000 kg. Crocodiles are very fast animals over short distances, even out of the water. Since they feed by holding and dragging their prey by forcing them between their teeth they have developed high mandibular strength. Paradoxically, the muscles that allow the crocodile to reopen its mouth are rather weak, thus allowing humans to immobilize them with simple iron protections to ensure that they are unable to open their jaws during transport.
