Jewel made entirely by hand by the Italian craftsman Gianmarco Fontana.
This pendant made of 925 Silver depicting "Fuck" is part of the "Hands" collection.
In the Latin world the gesture was identified as digitus impudicus ("impudent finger") (Isidore of Seville, in his Etymologies XI, 1, 71, says that the third finger of the hand is called "impudicus" because "often through it a warning is expressed against a shameful (shameless) action ", even if Persio refers to a" digitus infamis ". Juvenal through metonymy refers to the" middle nail "towards the threatening Fortuna. The use of this gesture in several and different cultures is probably due to the vast geographical influence of the Roman Empire and the Greco-Roman civilization.
According to another interpretation, the raised middle finger gesture dates back to the Hundred Years War between the British and the French: the British island army was winning the war with raids on French territory. The great additional weapon of the English army were the archers: they used the index finger and the middle finger every time they had to shoot an arrow. It was for this reason that each archer captured by the French had his two fingers amputated. From this episode derives the disparaging gesture, not surprisingly typical of Anglo-Saxon countries, of the middle finger and index finger raised with the back of the hand facing the offended person. This was in fact the gesture (with two fingers and not with one) that the English archers, not captured by the French, showed their opponents before each battle, the classic "V" still used today by the British to send the neighbor to that country, from not to be confused with the "V" of "Vittoria", made famous by Winston Churchill, in which the palm of the hand is facing outwards and not the back.
