Pendant dedicated to one of the most popular subjects in the world of tattooing: the anatomical heart.
This project was created by our friend Fernando De Paiva, a very talented Brazilian artist.
The heart is made up of myocardial cells, typically striated, which deal with contraction and auto-rhythmic non-contractile cells, from which the stimulus of contraction originates. Auto-rhythmic cells have the ability to self-depolarize, thanks to the opening of sodium channels (called funny), which move the membrane potential towards more positive values, allowing the opening of calcium channels. The entry of calcium into the cell is prolonged and leads the potential to stabilize on positive values for a few milliseconds, generating a plateau. The signal ends thanks to the opening of the potassium channels, which bring the membrane potential back to negative values and allow the funny channels to open again. The contraction of the myocardium begins due to the entry into the cell's calcium, which causes the release of more calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and therefore the contraction.
