The average length of the Anurans is between 35 and 75 millimeters, but there are many smaller ones as well as much larger ones. Among the smaller specimens we find the Psyllophryne didactyla and the Eleutherodactylus iberia, respectively measuring about 10mm and 10mm and a half. While among the largest species of this order we undoubtedly find the Conraua goliath, a huge 32 cm long frog that can reach, with extended legs, up to 70 - 80 cm.
They are amphibians that have very long hind legs adapted to jumping thanks to the presence of an extra bone segment; it is in fact an extension of the two bones (the talus and the calcaneus) constituting the "ankle" of these animals. They have a stocky, compact body, a broad, broad head, and usually smaller forelimbs than the hind limbs. Most species possess large, protruding eyes and a large eardrum on each side of the head. The mouth is wide and many species have a sticky tongue that is quickly extended to catch prey.
