James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (Seattle, November 27, 1942 - London, September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist and songwriter.

He was one of the greatest innovators in the field of the electric guitar: during his artistic parable, as short as it was intense, he became the precursor of many structures and of the sound of what would have been the future evolutions of rock through an unprecedented fusion of blues, rhythm and blues / soul, hard rock, psychedelia and funky.

According to the ranking drawn up in 2011 by Rolling Stone magazine, he was the greatest guitarist of all time. It is in fact at the top of the list of the 100 best guitarists according to Rolling Stone, ahead of Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.

Two of his performances, in particular, entered the collective imagination by force: his debut at the 1967 Monterey festival, in which he concluded the performance by setting his guitar on fire in front of an astonished audience, and the closing of the Woodstock festival of the 1969, during which, with irreverent artistic visionary, he reinterpreted the US national anthem in a provocatively distorted and cacophonous way that he, however, defined as beautiful. This also made him a major critic of the Vietnam War.

Hendrix was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
